Athlumney Lad was given a fine ride by Declan McDonagh to win for the eight time in his career.

Settled towards the rear of the field the pair made their ground on the outer in the straight, McDonagh waiting until the last 100 yards to put the gelding's head in front.

Rainbow Dash, sporting cheek pieces like the winner, came through on the inner to lead two furlongs from home and battled gamely to finish second.

Top weight Bahrain Storm arrived cruising early in the straight, but did not find as much as seemed likely when asked for his effort and finsihed third.

Top The Charts (weak on betfair) held every chance two furlongs from home, but faded inside the final furlong to finish fifth.

The well-backed Jawad (11/2 to 9/2) never showed with a chance.

Petit Fute was withdrawn with a stomach bug.
