An enquiry was held to ascertain the reasons why Paul O’Brien, the rider of the winner, Ascending Lark (GB); Charlie Maggs, the rider of Not Now Nathaniel (GB), placed third, and Ben Poste, the rider of Plantaroma (FR), placed second, failed to jump off for 24 seconds after the flag had been dropped.
All three riders were interviewed and the Stewards noted their explanations that their instructions had been to drop in and take a lead.
However the riders were reminded of their responsibilities to follow the Starting Procedures Code and to start in a timely manner once the start had been effected.
