Shaneshill's work was very middling coming into this and he was fourth choice in the race among our work riders. It was a brave ride from Jamie. He felt he was going well enough and took the bull by the horns; I thought he had gone a bit too soon but he stayed on well. Jamie felt he'd get the speed horses off the bridle and he looked a stayer there. He could be one for staying novice hurdles next year. W P Mullins, trainer

The Stewards fined Henry de Bromhead, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Riviera Sun, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order. The Stewards interviewed Mr J.J. Codd, rider of Shaneshill, concerning his use of the whip in latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found Mr. J.J. Codd in breach of Reg 10.3. (f) by using his whip with excessive force and frequency and having taken his good record into account suspended him for two race days.
