FormscanBy Eamonn Murphy - The fact that it happened during Royal Ascot is probably the reason why VERHOYEN'S appearance at Hamilton on June 21st escaped my attention. Probably just as well for my bank balance as it likely would have been difficult to resist the Piccolo colt in a novice auction stakes that was open to winners. Billy Lee made his way across to Scotland for the spin on Verhoyen, where the two-year-old was said to be a touch disappointing when beaten two and a quarter lengths into third as the 11/10 favourite. The selection was said to have had to race wider than ideal, and that he didn't really let himself down on the quicker ground. Hopefully the Listed second placer can put things to right here, and that his experience can gain the day.
