Review CORK 11TH JUN

Co Wexford based Paul Nolan trained three winners today, recording a double at Cork while Kasnani was the middle leg of the trio, winning the ACC Bank Handicap Hurdle at Roscommon.

Nolan's first winner at Cork was in the Mourne Abbey Handicap Hurdle when his well supported Gilt Benefit (8/1 - 7/1) ran out the two and a half length winner under Barry Geraghty.

The son of Beneficial made all and was clear throughout, eventually easing home ahead of Mr Blacktie.

Nolan was absent but was represented by his brother James who mentioned 'the fast ground was a worry for Gilt Benefit here but she handled it well. Her jumping is her biggest asset.'

Later in the evening, Dix Villez made all to win the Cork Racecourse Mallow Barbeque Chase, under Davy Russell.

Tony Mullins recorded a double, both winners for owner John Hanlon, although Mullins himself was absent, having gone to Roscommon races instead.

Hanlon's double was initiated in the opening Fermoy Maiden Hurdle with Turks Wood, who provided jockey Mark Watts, 28, with his second winner in two days and his thirteenth in total.

Turks Wood raced prominently throughout and moved through to lead before the sixth last flight, eventually staying on well for an easy ten length win over Tough Enough.

Hanlon later reported 'Turks Wood didn't handle the soft ground in the winter but is a different horse on this ground. I think he's a fair horse and may go for a Flat race next.'

A delighted Hanlon was back in the winner's enclosure an hour later when Waltons Mountain made all for a twenty length win in the Kanturk Handicap Chase, under Andrew McNamara.

Hanlon later joked 'I've never had two runners in one day never mind having two winners!'

He added 'Waltons Mountain races freely but is a good horse and the Galway Plate is on his agenda now although he'll probably have another run before then. He likes fast ground'

Eighteen year old jockey Alain Cawley partnered his first winner, when guiding Pat Kelly's six time Flat winner Vanbrugh to a surprise 20/1 win in the Glanatane Handicap Hurdle.

Cawley held Vanburgh in mid division, made progress from four out, led before the last, before staying on well for a length and a half win over Strand Line.

Cawley is from Craughwell, Co Galway and is based with trainer Paul Nolan in Co Wexford.

Tom Foley's San Souci Boy was the game winner of the Navigation Road Hurdle, under Garrett Cotter.
