Review NAAS 20TH JAN

Davy Russell was the star of the show at Naas on Saturday when bagging a double aboard Chelsea Harbour and Sweet Kiln.

Chelsea Harbour proved a cosy winner of the Grade 2 Woodlands Park 100 Club Novice Chase.

Russell sent his mount to the lead four out and he stretched clear after the second last, staying on for a five-and-a-half length victory over O'Muircheartaigh.

'I'm thrilled with him. I thought the three miles would help him,' said trainer Tom Mullins.

'Davy has got used to him and they have a good partnership now. He will have a little rest now. He was sweating up in the ring and I thought he could be coming back too soon.'

'The owner would like to go to Cheltenham or Aintree and he has to enter that picture now. We could pitch him into the SunAlliance. I think he likes that heavy ground although it was good when he won at Punchestown and it's possible he goes on all sorts.'

Sweet Kiln proved much too strong for her rivals in the Bank Of Ireland Hurdle, galloping relentlessly to a 12-length victory.

James Bowe's mare took up her customary front-running role and had her rivals struggling before the turn.

The well-backed 9/10f (from 11/8) pulled clear before the second last and Russell kept his mount going right to the line.

'She did it well and jumped well,' said trainer's son Michael Bowe. 'We will look and see what's next for her. She may go for the Boyne Hurdle at Navan (Feb 18th).'

Barry Geraghty also notched a double on the card courtesy of Druids Castle and Albanov.

Albanov and Charlie Yardbird fought out a pulsating duel from the second last in the Irish Racing Writers Novice Hurdle.

Jessica Harringtons's charge mount found extra on the run-in to prevail by a length-and-a-half.

'On his first run he hadn't run in a while and he has improved with each run,' said Harrington. 'Two miles is probably not his trip but it was a test of stamina today with that ground.'

Druids Castle wore down 4/6f Judge Deed on the run-in to claim the opening maiden hurdle.

Benefit Night ran out a comprehensive 17-length winner of the Novice Handicap Chase, pulling away from the second last to score in great style.

The Naas Supporters Handicap Hurdle also witnessed a cosy winner as Notable D'Estruval cruised to a five-and-a-half length success.

Whatuthink ran out an impressive winner of the bumper, streaking clear inside the final furlong for a 19-length victory.
