Review NAVAN 21ST MAY

Officials were forced to abandon the meeting at a wet and windy Navan after just three races.

The course was lashed by heavy rain all day and it was deemed unraceable after an inspection following the Sean Shields Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle.

'The track was raceable early this morning and also at 1pm when I walked it,' said clerk of the course Joe Collins.

'Due to the incessant rain and the deterioration of the track, especially during the second race, it was decided to call it off.'

The slog through the mud proved tough going for most of the runners in the races that did go ahead although Adamant Approach proved an easy winner of the Newgate Hurdle.

The 4/6f was sent to the front turning for home, by Ruby Walsh, and eased clear before the last to beat Chill Out by a comfortable seven lengths.

Eternal Lady also ran out an impressive of the opening Navan Golf Club Maiden Hurdle.

She tracked Bawn Og in the early stages and the pair were soon well clear. JP Magnier sent his mount to the front after the fifth last and she soon went clear to come home unchallenged. Snowy Morning stayed on into second but was never a threat.

The field went a sensible pace in the Sean Shields Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle but it still turned into a war of attrition in the closing stages as Nanny Nunny Nac battled gamely to prevail.

Eddie Power sent his mount into the lead at the second last and he pulled out all the stops close home to repel the challenge of Virginia Preuil by half a length.
