Review ROSCOMMON 1ST OCT

The featured Grade 3 Kilbegnet EBF Novice Chase will be remembered for an incident three fences from home where the 11/8 favourite Conna Castle knocked chief rival Articulation out of the race.

The Jimmy Mangan-trained gelding travelled strongly to lead just before this fence when he jumped out to the right, sending the Ruby Walsh-ridden Articulation to the ground.

Conna Castle went on to beat Corrieann by a comfortable three and a half lengths under Davy Russell and the stewards were satisfied that the incident was accidental.

'He's always tended to jump a bit to the right,' said Russell afterwards while Mangan is considering a novice at Galway later this month for his charge.

'He will stick to novices and will probably go to Galway. He'd be suited by more than two miles,' said Mangan.

Walsh was none the worse for his tumble and gained compensation later on when getting Magnet For Money up in the final strides to touch off Quinmaster in the novice hurdle.

'That came a bit quick after Listowel and he's had a tough race today so we may give him a little break,' said Tony Martin, who reports Leg Spinner a possible for the Cesarewitch at Newmarket later this month.

'We could find nothing major wrong after his poor run at Listowel. He's back in doing a bit but it depends on the next fortnight,' he said.

Michael Hourigan is currently away in Spain soaking up some sunshine but Just kept the flag flying for the Patrickswell trainer when taking the handicap chase.

Michael Darcy was full of confidence as he sent the gelding past Sabina Park at the final fence, and kept going to beat the staying on Time To Sell by three lengths.

'He's been knocking on the door all summer and its great to get another win out of him,' said Hourigan's daughter Kay.

John Oxx's autumn revival gathered further momentum as he teaming up with stable rider Michael Kinane for a 71/1 double with the Aga Khan-owned newcomers Ridawana and Zaralabad.

Ridawana was an easy-to-back 8/1 in the juvenile fillies maiden, and the grey daughter of Daylami appeared to have little chance when ridden along in rear before the straight.

However she really got the hang of things from the furlong pole and fairly flew home to beat Maidin Moch by a head.

Oxx sent out winner number 40 off the season when Zaralabad also came from off the pace to land the mile and a half maiden.

The son of Fantastic Light quickened up smartly in the straight for Kinane, now on the 29 winner mark, stretching clear in the closing stages to beat Chesapeake by two lengths.

Dermot Weld introduced another classic contender in the 7f 2yo colts maiden where the Khalid Abdullah home-bred Provincial came from well off the pace under champion elect Pat Smullen.

He picked up very nicely when switched out to the centre of the track and got the better of fellow newcomer Sufad well inside the final furlong as the pair pulled five lengths clear.

'The first two are pretty smart and this colt has always done everything right at home. He may have one more run in a Listed race,' said Weld's son Kris.

Amy Parsons partnered her ninth winner of the season when Maundy Money was prominent throughout and led inside the final furlong to beat Nortburn by 3/4L in the apprentice handicap.

The John Mulhern-trained Puyol (John Thomas McNamara) came home strongly to outpoint favourite by 2 1/2L in the bumper.
