Review TRAMORE 20TH AUG

John Oxx's Kastoria claimed the Listed Ballyroan Stakes at Leopardstown today and booked her ticket for a run in the Irish St Leger.

Sir Mark Prescott's gamer than game Foreign Affairs.adopted his usual front running tactics but was headed by the five year old mare over one furlong out, with Kastoria staying on well for a comfortable success.

Afterwards Oxx reported 'Kastoria is a lovely mare and is would be great to get one like her every year!'

He added 'she idled a bit in front but hopefully will step up on that run and will take her chance in the St Leger where she could reach the frame.'

King Jock, who formerly provided Dermot Weld with his 3000th career winner as a trainer, proved the surprise 20/1 winner of the Group 3 Desmond Stakes.

Ridden by Pat Shanahan, King Jock got to the front inside the final furlong, staying on well for a half length win over Arch Rebel.

Trainer Peter Casey completed a remarkable double.

Casey's Ireland's Call completed a famous five collection of consecutive handicap wins in the 7f handicap, before his Cool Touch completed a four-timer of handicap wins in the 1m2f handicap, both ridden by the trainer's son Oliver

Jockey Pat Smullen recorded a double in the opening two races, partnering his wife's Frances Crowley's Cheyenne Star, to win the opening Dalkey (Fillies) Handicap.

Smullen later doubled up on Capital Exposure in the 2yo maiden, for Dermot Weld, who recently claimed his 22nd Leading Trainer Award (in 23 years) at Galway.

At Tramore, jockey Davy Condon came in for plenty of praise from Gerry Cully after riding Cully's Rog to win the Queally Group Handicap Chase.

Former Champion Conditional Jockey Tom Ryan, who broke his jaw in a fall last Easter, rode his second winner since returning to action a month ago, when giving Upyaboya a typically strong ride to win the opening maiden hurdle

Winning trainer Joseph Murphy was represented by his wife Carmel who stated 'Upyaboya lost a lot of confidence when squeezed out through a wing at Killarney last July but is back on track now.'

Gowran based Dan Fogarty saddled Grange Melody to win the Mares Handicap Hurdle while Davy Russell and Joanna Morgan's excellent summer continues, further helped by Portant Fella's win in the www.tramore-racecourse.com Hurdle.
