FormscanBy Michael Graham - BRAID BLUE has an absence since October to overcome, but could be a useful recruit to steeplechasing. He missed two engagements in July, so it will be good to see him getting a run here. The seven-year-old gelding certainly knows how to get his head in front having won two bumpers and four hurdle races. He's a stayer who appreciates good ground. Popong won her maiden hurdle at this track, and is highly likely to show improvement from her 11-length second in a mares' beginners' chase at Tipperary. Castello Sforza's run in Tramore drew the attention of the stewards. In the end he finished a never nearer second so he has his chance. This is easier than the Grade B novice handicap chase that Monkshood was pulled up in at Naas in February. Prior to that, he was fourth in a couple of beginners' chases that saw winners come out of them. The concern is the ground as he would welcome a lot of rain.
