Dermot Weld is bidding to land this prize for the fourth time in the last five years, and the four-year-old has plenty of experience over hurdles including when second behind Hostile Fire and Whiteout earlier this year. He’s also a classy handicapper on the flat, and a close-up third to Trip To Paris and Quick Jack in the Chester Cup back in May could hardly have worked out much better. The Acclamation gelding has been a shade frustrating to follow, and if he’s to find one too good again it could be Tigris River. The well-bred son of Montjeu won a Killarney maiden last year but is not at the level of the selection on the flat. However there was plenty of promise in his debut third over hurdles at Roscommon where a mistake at the last didn’t help his chance, and he can be expected to benefit from that experience. Akito and Castle Guest are others to consider in an interesting contest.
