FormscanBy Gary Carson - This looks a real test for DARWIN but he gave the impression on his Irish debut at Naas that he could be really good. He was a smooth winner that day and can be expected to improve considerably for that outing, having only set foot on grass a couple of times before. He was obviously well regarded in the US. He was beaten favourite on his second start, when unlucky in running, and the race was won by a stable-mate who went on to narrowly lose out to subsequent Kentucky Derby winner Orb in a Grade 2 contest. Gordon Lord Byron obviously sets the standard here and is the one to beat. He emerged with plenty of credit when fourth in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and has confirmed himself as a top level performer. He has to give plenty of weight to the three-year-old here, however, including a Group 1 penalty. Leitir Mor often acts as pacemaker for stable-star Dawn Approach but is a good sort in his own right and looks capable of landing some prize-money here. Custom Cut has been a credit to connections and has handled the step up to stakes company well but this looks a seriously strong Group 3.
