A deserved win for MARY JOSEPHINE who was placed on all four outings last year. She stayed on well after hitting the front over a furlong out, and shouldn't have any difficulty getting a mile on this evidence.

ASHKA produced a carbon copy of her performance here three weeks ago, again diving left out of the stalls and hampering SALAMIS. In rear entering the straight, he kept on steadily down the centre of the track to capture second spot on the line. She obviously needs to correct her problems out of stalls, and is another for which a mile should hold no fears. She is entitled to get a handicap mark and is probably not the easiest to assess.

MISTER BANNON , the first reserve, was under pressure from before the straight but stuck to his task in game fashion, while the easy to back ZARS GOLD tracked the leaders but could find no extra from over a furlong out.

DAWN ECLIPSE and newcomer BLUE TURK were both real eye catchers. Both were in rear at the home turn, the latter plum last, but stayed on to good effect inside the final furlong.

READ THE SCRIPT raced keenly in front and appeared to be hanging a bit when headed in the straight. He attracted some support and is certainly one of interest for the future. EVITA EVITA was in touch with the leaders throughout but veered about a bit in the straight when asked for an effort.

TIGER ABBY (8th) was the subject of a running and riding enquiry. His trainer reported that he's had a hobday operation since his last run and needs to be covered up. Jockey Michael Hussey also reported that he suffered some trouble in running early in the straight.
