Modular stayed on gamely here to narrowly foil the gamble on Twofan (8/1 to 9/2).

The grey jumped up to dispute five out and had a clear lead after the third last. He stayed on dourly under pressure from before two out as Twofan flashed home late.

The winner had been running a decent race when unseating at Thurles back in January. Trainer Pat Morris revealed that the gelding doesn't stand much racing.

The runner-up had made up good ground to go third approaching two out and was staying on strongly before the last. He wasn't just as quick over the final obstacle as the leader and that may have proved the difference.

4/1 joint favourite Battle Axe had attracted support in the morning (5/1 to 7/2) and ran well.

He improved to chase the winner two out but could only stay on at the one pace from before the last.

Harbour View hadn't shown much recently, including a couple of spins over hurdles.

He kept on at the one pace from two out after tracking the leaders and it was a more encouraging effort.

Giolla De, held up, moved closer after three out but could only kept on one paced from before the second last.

The other joint favourite Sheebadiva was front rank until dropping away from three out. She pulled up before the last.
