This big field handicap turned out to be as competitive as it looked on paper. Desert Ben was sweating up beforehand, but never far off the pace he hit the front with a furlong to run and ran well to the line.

Nanita Bonita finished best to take second and as this was her seasonal debut she should pick up a similar race.

Champion's Way showed up well, but did not see out this stiff 6f trip on her seasonal debut.

Controvento, a three-time course winner over 5f, looked well in the parade ring, but weakened with well over a furlong to race.

Ideal Appeal and Wheatfield both finished strongly.

Non-runner was Gandolfini lame.
