Thosedaysaregone Dromlease Express won the race 16 years ago, ridden by Johnny Allen who is now champion jockey in Australia, and Off You Go won it the previous two years. They are all two and a half mile horses and that’s what you need for the race. I was going to go to Ascot but the English handicapper stuck him up 6lb for no reason so I said I’d stay at home then. I thought if he was close enough coming to the last that he would be hard to beat. He loves nice ground as well which was a plus. We’ll consider something like the Coral Cup and there is a big bonus there now so that would twist my arm towards that race. He’s already won a chase so he can mix it in the future with handicap chases and hurdles.

The Big Getaway A much more positive approach today paid off for us and the horse loves jumping. I thought it was a tremendous performance and he galloped all the way to the line. I’d imagine we’ll be looking at the Ballymore for him. He handled that ground well and I’d imagine a big horse like him would always prefer it but I’m not making him ground dependent at the moment anyway.

Ahgetawayoutadat I'm delighted she's had her day, . She's a small, cheap mare for a syndicate that just wanted a bit of fun. She saw it out well. She's slow and just about on the bridle the whole way, she wants three miles. Hopefully we can nick something similar again.

Lady Temperance I think she's a nice mare,. The owner (and breeder, Daniel Furini) is an Italian man and he's bought a place in Kilkenny. He's a very good owner, he's lovely. She's a nice filly and I'm impressed with her. She's a good genuine solid filly and it's a good track to win on. She was a little bit green and there should be a lot of improvement in her. She's something to look forward to. I'm delighted with her and delighted for Daniel.

The Big Getaway Patrick thought an extra half mile would be no problem and softer ground no problem. He looks a really nice type. He’s probably as big as Douvan, maybe even bigger. We’re going to remeasure him on Monday to find out and he’s certainly one of the biggest horses I’ve had anything to do with. Patrick said he just gallops all day. I’m told that is Patrick’s 600th winner. Just another 400 to go! I'm level with Ted Walsh on eleven amateur titles so it would be nice to add to that. My best total in a calendar year was 74 winners in 2012 which beat the previous best by Billy Parkinson (72 wins in 1915).

Fiveaftermidnight she won a maiden hurdle back in the summer and then had disappointed us a few times. She lost her confidence over fences and Annette that rides her out at home and looks after her has done a super job. We’ve done a good bit of schooling over hurdles with her just to get her confidence back. The plan was to ride her handy coming here today and then when I thought there was so much pace in the race I said to Sean going out to take your time and try and get a little bit of confidence and get her coming home well. That might get her into some of the good mares’ handicap chases later in the year.

The Getaway Star that's a relief because there was a lot of pressure coming into the race and I said beforehand she was only 80% ready and she looked a bit heavy in the parade ring. She will improve a lot from this and today was the prep race for a Listed bumper at Navan in three weeks time and the fact she has gone and won it is a bonus. She is a good mare. She is a brilliant jumper but she'll stay in bumpers this season and go hurdling next year.

Duhallow Paddy That is brilliant as he was unlucky two runs ago at Wexford when I hit the front too soon on him and I wanted to hang on to him longer today. He jumps great and that's my own first winner over fences. He is the owner Mike Moakley's (from Doneraile) first horse and I rode him in a few point-to-points and recommended him to Mike. He has been in the money every day and is a real fun horse who is really genuine. Mike and the ould fella (William Cronin senior) are friends for years and he'll get a great kick out of that. We have three horses on the go for the track and this fella is our main horse and will continue to mix away between hurdles and fences. Like everyone else we'd love to take a few more horses.
