Church Mountain off the mark for Hogan & Sheridan

That was great and Joey executed it well. We always liked this horse, from the time he ran as a two-year-old, but he's a massive big lad and he's still not the finished article. He's grown all year and he's babyish, you could see there he was very green in front. He needed to do that because he's a mile-and-a-quarter horse really. He had some hints of form, some nice runs staying on into fourth or fifth. Those three-year-old handicaps are so competitive. Today is the first day we made the running on him and it's been the making of him. Joey did a very good job on him and Joe Doyle deserves a lot of credit as well as he made the horse. He was very hard work when he came, he wasn't an easy ride, and Joe rides him every day and settles him. We needed to take a few pounds off him today and it's a team effort. We've schooled him over hurdles as well but we probably won't go that route this year. We'll let him mature first.

That's brilliant. Getting in was the hard part. He came out of Tuesday's race as well as I've ever seen him and gave us huge confidence for today. Chris gave him a great ride, it panned out lovely and you couldn't ask for any more. The mile looks to be the job done with him but he was grand there and did what he had to do. It's great that it's coming together for him now at this stage of the game. We were very disappointed with him last year when we thought we'd do well. There were horses that were racing around him as a three-year-old that went on and did very well. We had high expectations but he just didn't go forward like we thought he would. He seems to be doing it this year for some reason and we are delighted. The handicapper went to town on him after Tuesday and it seems a bit exaggerated to me but sure it was great to get that anyway.

I fancied him because I thought he was the class horse in the race,. He ran a cracker last week in the Group 2 (fourth in the Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh) and I knew he was going to improve from it. He ran well the other night when Cian got blocked in. I love when you drop these Group horses back into handicaps like that. He's proved that he's a very good horse. They were travelling so well, they were running away the two of them, and I said 'they're going to have to sprout wings to catch them'. I know the hill takes a lot of getting but they were going that well and I was praying that they were going to kick. We had four in the first six (Laugh A Minute sixth) and I can't believe it. I'm delighted for all the lads again, they've been very good to me. They are over for the week and don't know when they are going to go home now after this!. I felt sorry for Cian the other day because he was to ride Sirjack Thomas but when he was reserve I put him on Current Option. We were going to change but I said no because I thought this horse would win and I'm delighted for Cian that he's got another premier handicap. He's a very good kid and he's a very good lad to ride. He gave him a smashing ride. Of course we got a big scare up the hill with the loose horse but it worked out great. We'll probably go to the Listed race next week in Cork because he won't carry a penalty. We did it last year so if all goes well we'll do it again and then give him a break.

Kirkland Lady improves for change of tactics

It was a nice performance. The last time she got boxed in a little bit when dropping in and from the draw today Joseph decided to let her roll along as she stays well. Dylan said she didn't come down the hill great, she was a bit unbalanced. She's a big filly and learning all the time. Once she hit the rising ground she is going away from the other horse at the end. She can only go on from this as she's a big filly and she's going to improve all the time.

Insane Bolt wins on third start for Peter Fahey

We're delighted. In fairness to Tom Keane he picked the horse out of a claimer (over hurdles at Limerick in May) and there are a good few people involved so it's brilliant. He's a nice horse and he ran a good race here during the week. He'll tip away in those handicaps, he likes the good ground. We'll mix it over hurdles as well. He was bought for a bit of fun for a crew of people and it's worked out well. There are some lads from America involved in shares as well.

As Ben said he'll never win by far. When he gets there he just does enough and pulls himself up. He's always been like that and you don't want to be getting there too soon with him. We're lucky we got the right verdict and I'm delighted as it was very close. I thought he ran very well here on Monday when he was sixth (to Citronnade) in a higher grade. I thought with this lower grade and getting the allowance for being a three-year-old he would be very competitive. Around here you need luck and I thought Ben was very good, he's a brilliant rider. Long-term his future is over hurdles, he'll be twice the horse over hurdles, but I'm in no panic to go hurdling with him. When the ground gets a bit softer it'll suit him a lot better, that ground is as quick as he wants it. I'll have great fun with him, he's a fine big horse. We'll tip away on the Flat for the time being and he'll go hurdling later in the year.
