Joseph O'Brien will be hoping Emit can run a big race for them in the Hampton Court Stakes on day three at Royal Ascot.

The Piltown trainer saw Andab go close in the Coventry Stakes on day one of the meeting and this Too Darn Hot colt has hopes of securing Group 3 glory.

    Emit's profile on the up

Emit runs in the colours of Flaxman Stables Ireland Ltd, responsible for winners such as Tyrrhenian Sea, James Webb and Uxmal in recent times.

This three-year-old, meanwhile, has six races under his belt. He won his maiden at Tipperary over 1m4f on soft ground in October and then came up a touch short when upped to Group 3 company soon after at Leopardstown.

This season began with a neck-second behind Jaliyah at Cork in April before a pleasing half-length third in the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh last month.

That was over 1m2f, the same distance as Thursday’s Hampton Court Stakes, and it was quite a messy race, with Johnny Murtagh's Reyenzi getting disqualified for causing interference to the winner Thrice and runner-up Emit late on. Thrice holds an entry in the Irish Derby later this month.

That was Emit's best run to date and he has undoubtedly shown improved form in his two Irish efforts this season upped to this trip. His connections will be hoping he can deliver some more progress at Royal Ascot.

    'Best horse in the race'

His trainer certainly believes there is more to come. Emit was second-best at Leopardstown but O'Brien was left in no doubt that he was the meritorious winner.

"He ran a huge race in the Gallinule Stakes and, to be honest, I thought he was probably the best horse on the day," said the trainer.

"He got badly interfered with and it cost him. The Hampton Court will be a stronger race for sure, but he seems to be progressing, and the test should suit him."

Further progress here should see him be competitive in a race also featuring Irish-trained contenders Reyenzi for Murtagh, Tiberius Thunder for Adrian Murray and Trinity College for O’Brien’s father, Aidan.

    McMonagle rising to the occasion

Dylan Browne McMonagle announced himself on the European stage last summer with a number of big wins.

The Donegal native scored aboard the O'Brien-trained Al Riffa (3/5 favourite) in the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin in Hoppegarten before following up by adding a Deauville double a week later.

He landed a Listed prize for two-year-olds when giving Apples And Bananas (2/1 favourite) a front-running ride for his boss O'Brien before things got even better when he teamed up with British trainer Ollie Sangster on Simmering (7/5 favourite) to win the Group 2 Prix du Calvados.

In a summer when he also partnered a first scorer at Glorious Goodwood, it was a sparkling few weeks.

McMonagle has long been touted for big things in the saddle and he'll be keen to shed his Royal Ascot maiden tag this week.
