Trainer Andy Slattery has his eye on the Galway Mile with improving four-year-old Loughrea following the gelding's win in the Dublin To Bahrain Handicap at Leopardstown.

A lightly-raced son of Elzaam, the Holohan family owned gelding opened his account at the Curragh last time on only his second career start.

Making his handicap debut on this occasion, Loughrea showed that he was still a work in progress when staying on strongly inside the final furlong to beat Aviatrice by half-a-length under Andrew Slattery.

Slattery Snr said: "We held him up today, just to learn a bit. I entered him in the Galway Mile there yesterday and that's where we'll go I'd say.

"He's learning the whole time. He was a bit green in the Curragh and learned a good bit there.

"His work has improved since then, and I think he'll improve again. Hopefully he does anyway, it's only his third run.

"The Galway Mile is a big ask, I suppose, for an inexperienced horse, but he seems to have it."
