Nambour was fully expected to do the business in the bumper at Punchestown and the odds on favourite strode to victory in good style for Willie and Patrick Mullins.

None of the 20 runners had been seen on a racecourse, however, Nambour had landed a point-to-point in Dromahane for Liam Burke.

From a morning price of 5/4 the Gigginstown representative was backed down to 9/10 on the off.

With just under half a mile to go in this two mile contest, the Sholokhov gelding was on good terms with himself as he eased to the front. He was still swinging away in the lead until given the office in the final furlong to stretch away and win by three lengths. Krugermac was the only rival able to chase after him and he came in second at 16/1 having been 33/1 this morning. Lake View Lad at 20/1 was a further five lengths adrift in third.

Willie Mullins said: "He's a lovely big chasing type and stays all day. I'd imagine he'll go hurdling next season and then go chasing."

Mullins saddled a record 16 winners at the Punchestown Festival this week beating his previous best of 13. Of the 16, 10 were at Grade One level.

He had a treble on today's card courtesy of Annie Power Petite Parisienne and Nambour.
