It was first blood to Gordon Elliott on day three at Punchestown as Park Paddocks (6/1 favourite) put up a determined display to land the huge field JLT Handicap Hurdle.

Only a four-year-old, the Gigginstown House Stud-owned Jack Kennedy-ridden market-leader was in front when jumping a bit to his left at the last.

At that stage supporters and connections of Neverushacon and Call A Cab still held hopes, but Park Paddocks found plenty when the need was greatest to prevail by two and a half lengths and a length.

Success in the 30,000 Euro event saw Gordon Elliott now trail Willie Mullins by 30,161 Euros in the race to be champion trainer.

"It was badly wanted. He did it well. He jumped and travelled great and kept going so I've no complaints," said Kennedy.

"He's improved an awful lot. I'm not sure how much improvement there's left in him but he's definitely after improving from his first couple of runs."

For his part Elliott said: "Jack gave him a good ride, and he jumped well. He'll probably go chasing over the summer and use the four-year-old allowance. He's a horse that might even go back to the Flat at some stage."

His reaction to yesterday's turnaround in the trainers' championship after Willie Mullins' six-timer - "It's racing, and you have to smile and keep your head up. Willie is an amazing man and it just goes to show what he can do.

"If you give up in this game you're in trouble. We are on the back foot and we'll enjoy the rest of the week whatever happens."

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Force Of Forces (FR), trained by W.P. Mullins, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

Thomas P.O'Connor, trainer of Lilshane reported to the Clerk of Scales that his charge burst a blood vessel during this race. This report was confirmed by the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer.
