Priorstown wins well for Johnny Murtagh and Ben Coen Johnny Murtagh and Ben Coen combined to win the concluding Roscommon Racecourse On Facebook Handicap with Priorstown this evening. The Newtown Anner Stud Farm-owned 9/2 chance closed on the leaders turning for home and delivered his challenge from two furlongs out. He headed Gavin Cromwell’s 4/1 joint-favourite Glen Echo early inside the final furlong to win by a length and a quarter with Flagstone Lady flashing home for third place at odds of 25/1. The winning owner’s racing manager PJ Colville said, “We stepped up in trip and put cheekpieces on him. He’s just hard to assess as he doesn’t do a stroke at home, he’s very lazy. “He makes hard work of it. We’ll just go through the ranks and see where we are with him. “He probably wants a little bit more cut in the ground. It was a low-grade race but it was nice that he won it. “I think he can progress. Ben said he’d want it a little bit softer than that. He’ll reach his own level. We’ll find another similar race and go from there.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson
