Lavery's Mandmus in 33/1 surprise
Sheila Lavery's Viztoria may have had to settle for ninth place, in the 2.20 at Ascot, the Group 2 Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes, but less than an hour later the County Meath-based horsewoman got a nice boost courtesy of Mandamus' 33/1 success in the Coolmore Most Improved Maiden at Cork. He went up 2lb over the weekend (after Stormfly won) so we decided to run before he had to carry it. Soft ground isn't a requirement for him. I'm sure they'd all prefer it better than that as it's gluey today. He's been very consistent and could go up to a mile or run over six on soft.

I wanted to get him settled as he tugged a little in Cork, so I got a lead off the two boys. He travels quite well but doesn't do a whole lot in front. He deserves a break now and might be a nice three-year-old. He goes on that and on soft ground so will have plenty of options next spring..
