Fahy doubles up with new recruit
A recent switch to the Pat Fahy yard certainly worked the oracle on Head Turner as she left some previously modest form well behind with a facile victory in the Kilmolash (QR) Handicap Hurdle at Clonmel. Thu 18th Feb
I'm delighted with her now. She is jumping fences great and measuring them great,. Roger was brilliant on her. He was able to put the race to bed and he didn't have to fire her at the last then. He just let her settle and jump it. It's great when you can get the odd winner. So many things can happen and you need a bit of luck. She popped around. She won over a mile-and-a-half only last summer and that pace is there but you'd be worried would she be able to produce that kind of pace on this kind of ground. She'll go on soft, and she's won on soft, but if it's deep and tacky she just wouldn't be able to handle it. Obviously it's loose today. She was always going to be a better chaser and that's six races she's won now. We'll go for a similar handicap and go back to the mares novices and try and get a bit of black-type. We might try and be back here for the big meeting for something. Hopefully she stays sound and healthy.

She is slow out of the stalls and I don't want fast ground for her as she then can't get into it, but when I saw the ground was soft to heavy, I declared her as I knew she'd handle it,. Everything worked well today and that was Dylan's first ride for me. He came to ride for me recently and came back in from riding work with a good explanation of the horse he rode, so that'd do me. It was a great ride today and he's very professional. She'll go to Punchestown next but will have break then and come back for the end of the flat in the autumn. She'll go chasing then and jumps very well.

she made a bad mistake here the last day and it rattled her and prior to that had raced on the flat from wide draws. We bought her for a bit of craic and she has such a high cruising speed - we might give her an entry in the Boylesports Hurdle at Leopardstown in January.

If I had a few more horses like her, and Ruby, it would make some difference!. She'll run again wherever there is a suitable race, on the flat or over hurdles. She is owned by husband and wife Liam and Aisling Hurley, from Stradbally, Co Laois - who are in Dubai on business.

Her owner Liam Hurley rang me looking for a horse as I was with Martin (Cullinane) a month ago and I bought her off him. I had seen how fine a filly she was previously and the more Martin liked her, the more I wanted to buy her. In fairness to Katie she was on the outside and was in no hurry. At home she had been doing everything well and had muscled up so much. She is kind and easy to deal with and I imagine she can step up now. She is well bred and is proper stuff. That wasn't her ground but I wanted to find out a few things today.
