After race at Bellewstown Wed, 27th Aug, 2025 (1st) 
I think these claimers are a great job and there should be one every month really, I saw Denis Hogan saying it a couple of years ago. You are kind of showing that you are maybe at the end of the road. Irish racing is very competitive, and you are showing the handicapper that you are under a bit of pressure. I'm not complaining - she probably deserves to be 110, but it is hard for her to go out and carry top-weight in a 110 handicap. For her, if she is claimed for eight grand, fair play and she would be a grand mare for the north of England. She's probably just not quite good enough for Ireland. That's why I think HRI (Horse Racing Ireland) should seriously consider putting on more claiming hurdles for trainers that are at the end of the road with horses, because sometimes it is hard to place some of them. She has won a bumper and a maiden hurdle and now this, but she is what she is - she's no superstar and she was well held in Tramore. If she comes back to us again, we will keep trying. John (Bates, owner) and his son are great supporters of ours. They always have a horse with us. They are only small owners, but they love the game, and we will see what happens.

We took a bit of a risk running her back over two miles, but the race was worth €15,000 and as we are only down the road, we said we'd take our chance. I told Alex before hand to give her a nice aggressive ride, she has plenty of experience. She was the only winner in the field, I won a bumper on her at Limerick last year. Ideally she wants two miles four to two five. We had a bit of luck with the horses coming down two out, but the riders and horses are up and that's the main thing. It's great to pick up the €5,000 bonus as well. I'm delighted for her owners John Bates and his son Gilmer, they are great supporters of the yard. Chris Shanahan (course foreman) deserves plenty of credit for the condition of the ground. It's back to yielding and that's what the riders want, safe ground.

I got in contact with Gilmer (Bates, owner) through Jonathan Birkmore and Danny Fitzsimmons in the north who have horses with me, and I had success selling horses with Jonathan. We had this mare entered at a sale last week but felt we might be 'penalised' for not having gone for a bumper so I said to Gilmer that he would be mad to sell her. Her work since Wexford had been brilliant. She is a smart mare, probably does a bit more on the track than at home and we'll give her a chance now and see what Gilmer wants to do.
