Navan feature one to remember for Monaghan family
Midnight Soprano shortened up a little bit in morning trading on the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Handicap at Navan but in the face of support for others the lightly-raced four-year-old was sent off a 25/1 chance. She defied that price under Marc Monaghan by outpointing Sun Disc and Make My Heart Sing by half a length and a neck. Wed 19th Oct

I'm delighted and she's holding her form well. She will probably go now for a Group 3 in France.

they don't come any tougher or more genuine than Midnight Soprano - her sister was the same and they're a lovely late maturing family. We had this in mind for a while and it was 'one shot for a big pot' and hopefully she'll go on to get blacktype. She goes on both soft and quick ground and has got pace and stays. It was a great ride from the kid and he is great value for his 7lbs claim. There'a a Group 3 for her at Naas and I'm fairly confident she'll get blacktype at some stage. The owner (Jim Monaghan, grandfather of the winning jockey) is a great man and is very patient.

She is a smashing mare and I think we are a long way from the bottom of her. We will see what the handicapper does now. I was almost going to pull her out because of the ground and the step back up in trip but she got away with it.

She's a lovely mare and is from a great family. They get better with age and keep progressing,. She's not as comfortable on that ground as her sister (Celtic Soprano). We'll see what the handicapper does and maybe try to find something similar.
P D Deegan
She done the job well. Our only doubt about her was fitness. She had been working well at home though. We're happy with her and she handled the ground. She's a good actioned filly and she should be okay for Dundalk as well.
P D Deegan
She did it well, she stays very well and is very genuine though it mightn't have looked it there. Maybe going that way around (right-handed) mightn't have completely suited her. She is still green though and still learning. We'll put her in a handicap now and see where she goes from there. If she has half the heart of her sister, Celtic Soprano, she'll go a long way. Jim Monaghan, the winning owner and breeder is from Tipperary. I'm delighted for him, he is a very sporting man.
