I told him not to be in front too long but he had my heart in my mouth. It was unbelievable (the ride) and it was a great round of jumping from the horse as well,.
Colin Kidd
he got there and got the job done! . Sean (Flanagan) said they didn't go quick enough for him and if they had gone quicker he would have been better. That’s his third win here and you could nearly call him a course specialist at this stage. it definitely opens up more options for him and without a doubt he stays three miles. We'll look for something for him again before the winter ground comes and then we'll put him away.
Colin Kidd
He has some attitude and it just proves last week that he just hates going left-handed and easy-fix hurdles. We examined him and found absolutely nothing wrong with him and was bouncing out of his skin all week so I said we'd run again. Two miles over hurdles is now too sharp for him and he'll go for the Amateur Riders Handicap at Galway next. I've nobody booked to ride yet but we'll see what weight he gets although off a rating of 86 on the flat he should be competitive. Without a doubt I'd like to step him up to three miles rather than back down to two (miles) and that's nine wins now. He's unbelievable and keeps coming back for more but we'll never go left-handed with him again. Myself and Sean (Flanagan) go back a long, long way and I'm delighted to be part of his first treble - he's riding out of his skin.
Colin Kidd
He's tough and he only does what he has to do, he still gets the job done. I was a bit nervous now saddling an odds-on chance. The plan I would imagine now is to either run in the Grade Three hurdle in Tipperary in two weeks or there is another two and a half mile conditions hurdle in Cork in three weeks for ones that haven't won more than two since last May so he would be well in in that as well. The immediate plan after that is to go for the amateur riders race on the Monday of Galway. Sean (Flanagan) said they didn't go fast enough for him and if they had gone faster he would have been better. I see there he pulled a shoe coming in as well. He got the job done and he was the best horse in the race and he was entitled to do it.
Colin Kidd
He's tough as teak and to think he ran in the Punchestown Champion Hurdle on Friday - we know from last summer that he takes his racing so well, he is brilliant,. He was only third entering the final furlong and just ground it out and never knows when he is beaten. He loves that ground and it's the key to him - that family all want that ground. He's not a Royal Ascot horse as we travelled him to Aintree and didn't settle in over there and didn't eat or drink. He ran unbelievably well considering he didn't settle in but we won't travel him again. There are plenty of big staying handicaps for him at home and the obvious race that comes to mind for him is the Amateur Handicap at Galway and he also has the option of one or two hurdle races also.
Colin Kidd
I don't think he was in love with it around here. He didn't travel great but his ability got him through it. If we get a fine week he could possibly go for the Red Mills Hurdle. After that we will stay at home for Fairyhouse and Punchestown unless a suitable Flat race came up in the meantime. He takes his races well. He'd only run in the November Handicap about five days before he won in Down Royal, and he'd a run in the Cesarewitch three days before he was second to Hidden Cyclone. There is plenty to work on, and Niall said he had a good blow. There is loads of improvement in him. He's only back in six weeks, and hopefully it will be a long season for him.
Colin Kidd
Last year the heavy ground along the winter just didn't suit him. We have been blessed with the weather the last couple of months. I am just going to keep him going while the ground is this way. Once the word 'heavy' appears in the ground he'll get a rest and come back for some of the big races in the spring. He is thriving on racing - the November Handicap, sixth in the Cesarewitch. second to Hidden Cyclone I think that's four runs in the last month. He is loving it and the good ground is the key to him. We went into the juvenile hurdle on St Stephen's Day last year as favourite and Apple's Jade and Jer's Girl were first and second. He doesn't jump as well on heavy ground. Today was the plan. If the weather stays this way he could go to Naas next Saturday for the four-year-old Grade Three. If the ground comes up no worse than yielding he could possibly run there. We never had any regrets (about not selling him when the offers came in). I never felt any pressure because I was never put under any pressure. The owners - my mother and Mrs Treacy - are into a good horse to enjoy him and are having the time of their lives going round the country. Unfortunately none of them are here today.
Colin Kidd
He got a fright in the Galway Hurdle going down to the first, and just wouldn't have the same experience as a lot of those handicappers. He lost his confidence and this was a good opportunity to get him back. On his hurdle form he was entitled to win it. That will leave him spot on for Listowel. He'll be entered in the Lartigue Hurdle and will probably get top-weight. He rattled off that ground, and will tip away as long as the ground is not heavy. He could even go to Dundalk.
Colin Kidd
He was very good. He gave the filly 11lbs and ran away from her. After Listowel today was always the plan, and everything has gone smoothly. Leopardstown at Christmas is the obvious next step, and we'll take it one race at a time from there.
Colin Kidd
Mikey (Fogarty) said he was at his ease the whole way and hardly came off the bridle. He has a bit of class, is bred in the purple and could be special. I won't run him in a winners' of two under a ten pounds penalty so I'll wait for the Grade 3 hurdle on Hatton's Grace day (at Fairyhouse) next.
Colin Kidd
He's been working well and is class. His half-brother (Rayeni) was second in a 2,000 Guineas to Mastercraftsman. I think he was the best-bred horse in the race. I bought him out of Mick Halford's at the February sale and he looks value now.
Colin Kidd
