Dessie Hughes registered his 50th winner of the season at Fairyhouse today when his Whispering Hills, who had to survive both a photo finish and a stewards' enquiry, won the concluding Dunshaughlin Bumper. Wed 15th Apr
St Devote has been a good servant for the lads and I think there is a good handicap chase in him at some stage. He won a nice handicap hurdle at Listowel last year and he is very efficient over his fences. A flat track and two and a half miles suit him and we might look at Aintree for him next year. He has had a long old summer, has been on the go a while and we will give him a break now. He has been carrying a bit of a back injury which we will now get treated although I'm not sure when he will come back . either Christmas or next spring time. It's nice to sign off with a win.

He jumped well for his first run over fences. They have done a good job with the track but its as quick as he would want it. Good to yielding would be ideal for him and he's not a horse for the depths of winter. He may have one more run before Galway where he'll probably go for a novice chase.
Eoin Griffin
It's great to get it and I'm delighted with him. We think a fair bit of him at home. When the rain came he had his chance. He'll have a break now and we'll find something for him in Cheltenham in November when some of the owners will hopefully be able to come. He'll be a better chaser in time. Barry is a thorough professional and I was delighted to have him as he knows the horse well. I'm glad he won as I forgot to get Barry a present!

Someone should really point me in the right direction to find the winners enclosure!. We had a terrible season last year but since the ground has improved they have picked up a bit. Hopefully that is a sign of things to come. This horse was very weak and needed the break (off the course since last November). He'll be entered in the handicap hurdle at Killarney on Sunday but I'd be mindful of him needing some time between races. We'll see how he is in the meantime. He's still a bit keen and a bit babyish, but when he learns to settle he'll be grand.
Eoin Griffin
I'm glad one of the horses got up this evening. He's a nice horse and I hope he has a nice future. We will probably go for a maiden hurdle next with him. This lad is owned by a syndicate which includes international football players John O'Shea and Stephen Hunt so I'm delighted he won for the lads.
Eoin Griffin
