Newtown’s Night at 5/1 shed her maiden in striking fashion in Naas for John Oxx and Declan McDonogh. Mon 04th Aug
That's Nathan's 7lb gone as well, so it great that he did it on one of our own. She's just there for the apprentices to ride. She's great for the kids to ride - a big, solid tank. She's a saint because she stood there for 10 minutes but jumped well and got over to the rail. We'll keep messing about with her!
W McCreery
She was thriving all summer and I said I'd give her a bit of a shock and try her in a visor, so obviously they worked. The ease in the ground probably helped too as she didn't feel it as much. She is versatile (ground wise) and is there for the apprentices to ride. There was another girl in the yard going to ride but she was too low for her to ride. She wins and pays her own way and the kids can ride her so what more do you want. She leads the two-year-olds every Thursday and we'll look for another race with her somewhere.
W McCreery
She was unlucky with Peter Kavanagh last week. I tossed to see who would ride her today and Cian won the toss. Lucky for him and unlucky for Peter. He gave her a lovely ride as the last few times she has just been going a bit too quick and I said 'just hold her up today and let her enjoy herself'. He did and got a lovely clear passage. She’s for claimers to ride in the yard. Cian’s first ride was a winner on her at the Curragh and his 10lb claim is gone now as that’s his third winner.
W McCreery
She broke out really well and she stayed straight the whole way and I was always happy with her. I was just lucky that the lads behind me didn't catch me. I'm going into sixth year now so that will be my main focus - my leaving cert. I can claim 10lbs off 8st 11lbs. That's Cian's first ride. He was 16 in May and has been riding out for me since he was 13. His dad Mark is a partner in the Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital. He's going back to school in a few weeks. He's very tall and I said that I'd give him a few rides before he gets too big.
W McCreery
I'm delighted with that. It was her first try over that trip. She will go for a handicap next and she probably needs an ease. I haven't gunned her at home as such as she is little hot, so I had to take it easy with her.
W McCreery
