Tom's Times triumphs at Fairyhouse
Tom Mullins' Tavern Times made an impressive winning debut in the concluding Membership 2010 Bumper at Fairyhouse today, overcoming some trouble in-running before recording a comfortable three lengths win. Sat 10th Oct
I feel he's been getting better all the time. He's been showing more speed at home so I let him take his chance over two miles today,. I wanted to see if he was good enough to go for the Royal Bond at Fairyhouse. I also had Cheltenham in November in mind for him but I'd say the Royal Bond is his main target now. Even though he's won by 17-lengths he had a hard enough race there.
Thomas Mullins
It was not ideal he hit the front but I just wouldn't be holding him up either as he is that sort of horse at the moment. He is getting better, getting a bit of confidence and getting well in himself again. We had a lot of hardship with him over the winter as he ran well in a race at Naas but cut the front leg off himself and he was lucky to come back after that at all.
Thomas Mullins
Davy said he wants a bit further. It looked that way today, although it's a bit of a surprise to me. His class won out in the end, and any less of a horse wouldn't have won as the runner-up had a right go at him. He'll go novice hurdling now rather than handicapping.
Thomas Mullins
Tavern Times always showed plenty of class at home and we fancied him a lot. He may go for a winners' bumper over Christmas next and we'll take it from there before making further plans.
Thomas Mullins
