Weld has plenty of day one artillery
Dermot Weld, often dubbed the King Of Ballybrit, looks to have strong claims throughout the card on the first day of the Galway Festival Mon 28th Jul
I knew barring a disaster we were going to have the one-two so it's great. We got the right result anyway and it didn't matter which one won, we're happy with it anyway. The winner has a bit of an engine and he's a nice horse. He's in the Plate but we'll enjoy today and see what happens. Maybe more of a slog would have suited Rogue Angel and Jack said he had a bit of a blow at the wrong time but he'll come on from the run. He'll be okay too. I think it's about the only National we hadn't won so it's nice to win it.
Gordon Elliott
He did it well and we'll try and find something small for him again. It was straightforward enough.
Gordon Elliott
It was a good staying performance. He's a horse that has progressed and developed as the year has gone on. Well take it one day at a time with him and see where we go. Physically he has developed considerably as the year has gone on and that's one of the main reasons for his success.
D K Weld
He's a nice staying horse. They went a cracking gallop all the way and he got a great ride from Pat. The step up in trip helped and being gelded helped too. He's a late-maturing horse who appreciated the better ground. The mile and a half suits him well. The ground is a bit quicker than I anticipated. It's beautiful quick ground, but it is getting a bit quick for the jumps boys. Grecian Tiger was beaten by a better horse (Quick Jack) and the two-year-old (Postulation) was probably beaten by a very good horse (Jamaica) who is probably Group company and he isn't Group company.
D K Weld
