An enquiry was held into the running and riding of all beaten horses after the winner Loustic Du Chatel (FR) had been allowed to establish a sizeable uncontested lead through the early and middle stages of the race.

Jonjo O’Neill Jr, the rider of Bathara (FR), placed second; Ben Jones, the rider of Dartmouth Jet (GB), placed third; Liam Harrison, the rider of Run Away Joe (IRE), placed fourth; Jack Tudor, the rider of Can U Feel It (IRE), placed fifth, were interviewed and shown recordings of the race.

O’Neill Jr stated that his instructions were to sit handy or even upsides in front, and that the leader in his opinion was setting a strong gallop which he thought his horse would be suited to, but found he was flat out most of the way and having had a wind operation earlier on in his career, O’Neill Jr was conscious of trying to hold the gelding together to finish off his race in the best possible placing.

Jones stated his instructions were to switch the gelding off out the back of the field as Dartmouth Jet (GB) is inclined to take a keen hold and had concerns that having become keen down the hill, if he made a move too soon he would get lit up and not finish his race.

After giving Dartmouth Jet (GB) clear running room approximately three furlongs out, he improved into second before weakening in the final furlong.

Harrison stated his instructions were to drop out last to settle the gelding at the rear of the field, but when he switched into daylight to make up ground he was never happy and from the back-straight Run Away Joe (IRE) was never travelling and stayed on at one pace to finish a distant fourth.

Tudor stated his instructions were to drop in last, and settle well in third place but Can U Feel It (IRE) made up no ground from turning into the home-straight to eventually finish fifth of five.

Following the race, Ben Jones reported that Dartmouth Jet (GB), placed third, ran too free.
