FormscanBy Tom Weekes - DR MIKEY has proven ability and might be able to build on his encouraging hurdles debut here last month. He is a front-running dual bumper winner and while he set a very strong pace latest, was ultimately beaten by a useful winner (who was himself hampered at the third last then). This is possibly a slightly lesser maiden and he might prove strong enough. Woods Well has also shown enough ability to suggest a race of this type but it is a minor cause for concern that his trainer has emphasised that the gelding shows him precious little in his homework. His racecourse form has been solid though, has the benefit of a point to point run and comes here fit and well with his yard bang in form. Black Ace has himself shown ability but his latest run at Kilbeggan, when beaten at odds-on, is a cause for concern. He had previously shaped quite well but following his Kilbeggan defeat, his trainer reported to the stewards that he ‘gurgled from the second last hurdle’. He again carries a tongue-tine here, for the fourth time, but would have solid claims on his best form. Willie Mullins’ Kolumbus is a Kilbeggan bumper winner but might prove vulnerable on hurdles debut while Sizinguptheamazon makes his reappearance over a trip possibly short of his best.
