FormscanBy Eamonn Murphy - ASTERION FORLONGE and Pencilfulloflead aren’t long about catching the attention, despite the large field of contenders to choose from. A big money buy out of the point-to-points, Asterion Forlonge had to work to justify very cramped odds in a Thurles bumper in November. You’d have thought that the Coastal Path gelding would ideally need to go up in trip but the more galloping nature of this venue should play to his strengths. Pencilfulloflead lived up to market expectations on debut at Down Royal in November and he certainly shouldn’t be judged to harshly for his defeat at Navan in the middle of last month. At Proudstown Park the Shantou gelding soon raced in third, before coming with his effort over two furlongs out. Switched right a furlong and a half out, the now six-year-old kept on without threatening inside the final furlong to finish fourth behind Uhtred. There’s no reason to think Pencilfulloflead won’t make a jumper, and no doubt Robbie Power is looking forward to throwing his leg over the Robcour-owned representative.
