FormscanBy Gary Carson - NICHOLS CANYON should repeat last year’s victory in this Grade One contest. He battled gamely to beat Identity Thief in a good renewal 12 months ago and looks to have a slightly easier task now. The six-year-old was very good on his return at Punchestown when taking the Morgiana in style and should confirm that form with Jer’s Girl and Ivanovich Gorbatov. Jer’s Girl may improve from that run but it’s hard to see her turning the tables. A bigger danger looks to be Petit Mouchoir, who was running really well in the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle until crashing out, when holding a narrow lead, three from home. That looked an improved effort and if he can repeat that kind of run he could give Nichols Canyon something to think about.
