It's only his first run in a handicap and second run over fences, obviously he lacked experience but his jumping is savage and he was brilliant the whole way. I thought it (handicap rating) was fair, off his hurdle mark. We hoped he had improved for fences, he won his beginners chase nicely in Limerick. The lack of experience around here (was a worry) but you wouldn't have thought it with the way he jumped. He really stayed at it and I thought Darragh gave him a super ride. We won't rush, today was the plan and he's still a novice. He has options. He probably prefers nicer ground, I'd say he's better on better ground.

He disappointed us in Galway, he just ran a little bit flat. Ground is not an issue with him, although we were blaming it before. I thought he had a bit more bottle over a fence and maybe he will learn and get a bit more confidence with time. I'd say it wasn't an inconvenience that the last two were omitted. It was a decent race and it was run at a good pace. He was rated high enough over hurdles to run well in it and he was getting a 3lb allowance for not having won a race, so technically he was well enough in. The last day he ran here he missed the last in what was a decent beginners chase. Hubrisko has won since and Ballyadam was placed in Galway. There is no reason he can't go back over hurdles and we might mix it with him. I don't think he is as ground dependent as we thought. He finished out the race well and I like the way he hit the line. We might look for a winners-of-one for him now, we will see what's coming up in the next month.

We left him out for the summer and he’s done well. He’s only a five-year-old and is after strengthening up. He jumped great apart from one he fiddled down the back. I’d say he’d have no bother jumping a fence in due course. I’d say he’ll end up being a three-mile horse and when he hit the hill he picked up and got going. He’s a nice one. There is a two-and-a-half-mile novice handicap hurdle in Leopardstown at Christmas and whether he runs between now and then I’m not sure. I'm delighted with that and he is a horse who had shown plenty of promise and Sean Doyle (point to point handler) recommended him. I'm delighted for his owner Peter Davies who is a great supporter of ours. We liked him at home but you always have to do it on the track. He is by Blue Bresil and is from the same cross as Constitution Hill - both are out of King's Theatre mares. Whether or not he is him or not I don't know and we have a long way to go for that but it is nice to win a maiden hurdle. He's normally fast asleep at home so it surprised me he was keen. Paul (Townend, on Mercurey) and Rachael were taking each other on a bit, Rachael opted to do what she did and it worked out thankfully. I don't think we need to rush and there is the Grade 2 Moscow Flyer Hurdle at Punchestown in the middle of January and that might be the race for him. Christmas would feel too close to me but we'll see and enjoy today. He has a lot of pace so we will stick two two miles.
