Mullins scores with first runner as a trainer
Another trainer to have his first runner and first winner on this evening's Kilbeggan card was Emmet Mullins who saddled St Stephens Green in the bumper. Mon 22nd Jun
He schooled very well at home and we were hoping he'd bring it to the track,. The two mile two trip was a bit of a worry but he stuck his head out and he was game. He was spring-heeled at the last two. David (Mullins, winning rider) was confident enough in the horse to give him a squeeze there and he delivered.
Emmet Mullins
Emmet (Mullins) has done a great job with him. He found a nice race for him here and he did the job well. He was probably a little unlucky at Galway. He battled on well. I'm not sure whether he will go back hurdling now or stick to the Flat. He is a nice horse with plenty of options and it's great to get the job done today.
Emmet Mullins
That was brilliant and it is my biggest winner as a trainer. He had been disappointing with his jumping ever since he got a fall in Punchestown earlier in the year. Thankfully after he ran the last day, Willie (Mullins, uncle) and I spoke in the stableyard and gave me advice and I listened. It worked the oracle thank god but we can't let everyone know the secret!. I'd imagine for the Mees (owners) it'll be straight to Galway and all roads lead to there. He could run in the Amateur Handicap there and after that might run in a hurdle race later in the week. David was brilliant on him and it was also his first ride for me.
Emmet Mullins
his jumping, for a handicapper, was a bit untidy but Danny said he was back on the bridle quickly after both mistakes.
Emmet Mullins
Job done! I'm used to plenty of pressure situations and that was grand. Patrick kept it simple and I'm delighted for the owners, the Mees. Putting him in with me meant a lot and hopefully it will be a help in the future. He'll be a nice horse for a winners' bumper in Galway. He's a nice, big horse and ran a good race in the Land Rover Bumper. He'll be kept going, he's a real good ground horse. I don't imagine he'll jump hurdles this year. I might come back to ride the very odd one.
Emmet Mullins
