Permission was given for Streak Lightning (IRE) to go early to post and for Lahab (GB) to wear a red hood to post.
Inside the final ½ furlong, the winner, Showhound (GB), shifted right-handed moving Bobby Joe Leg (GB), placed third, off its intended racing line who in turn moved Arantes Nascimento (GB), placed fifth, off its intended racing line which caused Trais Fluors (GB), unplaced, to be short of room against the rail, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Showhound (GB).
The winner Showhound (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Southwell on 29 December 2024 where the gelding finished seventh of eleven runners, beaten by 6 ¼ lengths.
The representative of Richard Fahey explained that Showhound (GB) had benefited from the step up in trip from 6 furlongs to 7 furlongs on this occasion.
Their explanation was noted and Showhound (GB) was routine tested.
Following the race, Kaiya Fraser reported that Trais Fluors (GB), unplaced, suffered interference approximately ½ furlong out.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Lahab (GB), which was pulled up, had bled from the nose.
The Stewards reviewed footage of the horse in the stalls with the gelding’s Trainer, Michael Wigham and noted that Lahab (GB) had reared as the stalls opened hitting its head on the top of the starting stalls.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race endoscopy confirmed that the bleeding was the result of that blow.
