A cracking result for bookmakers with plenty of well backed runners over-turned by 33/1 newcomer Gwens Spirit. The son of King's Best is a well bred sort, and according to connections "won't make a proper horse until next year." Gwens Spirit kept on well in the straight when threatened by the runner-up and does appear to be quite useful.

Bodalboy was well backed and was unlucky to come up against the unraced winner. A similar race should prove well within his grasp and he should pay his way over jumps too.

The Last Derby ran well on his debut while the real eye-catcher was Charlie Swan's Goldfeather, under his inexperienced rider. The filly ran on to good effect in the straight and passed the line travelling quite well. A summer bumper should prove well within her capabilities, at the least.

Fennor Rose and Fier Destrier were both well backed but never looked like winning.

Non-Runners were Tawazoun and two reserves.
