Just inside the final 2 furlongs, Jojo Rabbit (GB), unplaced, lugged quickly right-handed, at the same time as Cape Sovereign (IRE), unplaced, hung slightly left-handed, causing the rider of Brian The Snail (IRE), unplaced, to take a precautionary check when short of racing room, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.

An enquiry was held to consider interference inside the final furlong, involving Scatter Penny (FR), which dead-heated for third, ridden by Joanna Mason and Cape Sovereign (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Daniel Tudhope.

Mason was cautioned for careless riding as she allowed her mount to drift left-handed without sufficient correction, carrying Cape Sovereign (IRE) off its intended line.

Harry Smith, the rider of Fortunate Star (IRE), placed second, beaten by a nose had appeared to ride less vigorously for a number of strides near the ½ furlong marker.

Being a 7Ib Claiming Apprentice, Smith was accompanied in the enquiry by a senior rider.

After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Smith who was having only his second professional ride, explained that the gelding was hanging left-handed and required correction as he was unaware, if it might interfere with other runners to his inner.

Smith continued by saying that whilst the process of both correcting and straightening his mount had taken several strides and possibly longer than ideal, he had never actually stopped riding his mount forward and did not mistake the half furlong marker for the winning post.

Smith’s explanation was noted.
