An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race following possible interference from approaching 2 ½ furlongs out to the line, involving the winner, Royal Playwright (GB), ridden by Oisin Murphy and Mister Rizz (GB), placed second, ridden by Kieran Shoemark.

The Stewards considered that from approximately 2½ furlongs out to the furlong pole, no interference had taken place because both horses had moved independently left-handed to the stand-side rail, with the space remaining consistent between them throughout the move.

The Stewards considered that interference did take place inside the final furlong, but that it had not improved the placing of Royal Playwright (GB), as despite the colt tightening Mister Rizz (GB) for room against the rail, Royal Playwright (GB) appeared to be gaining ground throughout, with the consequences to Mister Rizz (GB) being brief in nature and minimal in terms of loss of momentum.

Furthermore, at the point at which the rider of Mister Rizz (GB) eased his mount in the final strides, Royal Playwright (GB) was a length up on the gelding.

With the winning distance at the line being 1 ¼ lengths, the Stewards ordered the placings to remain unaltered.

The interference was found to be accidental as Royal Playwright (GB) continuously hung left-handed despite Murphy’s best efforts to correct the colt.
