FormscanBy Alan Magee - BARNAHASH ROSE appears reasonably treated on her handicap debut, and looks capable of reversing placings with Pride Of The Braid compared with a maiden here last month. John Kiely’s mare, a bumper winner at Wexford last spring, came home well to land that two-mile maiden on her hurdling debut and obviously has plenty of scope for improvement. However the selection, herself a bumper winner on fast ground at Roscommon, is also not easy to assess having run over further on both her previous hurdle starts. The 2m4f handicap won by Elusive Ivy at Punchestown last month is obviously a key race here with the first four home renewing rivalry. The Living Beauty was coming off a break of over three months, and the Cork maiden winner could well be a factor here with her stable in decent form. Who’s That is off just a 3lb higher mark than when taking this 12 months ago, and was far from disgraced here at Christmas.
An extended handicap hurdle for four yrs old and upwards mares only that are EBF eligible (123 = 11st 10lb)Penalties - Winner of a hurdle race after calculation of the handicap to carry 6lb extra for each hurdle race won. Any horse rated above 123 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 11st 10lb. Subsequently, the excess over 123 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any four or five year old rated above 123 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
