The Grade 1 winning hurdler went to Cheltenham as one of the Irish bankers in 2013 only to finish third behind The New One in the Neptune, and subsequently spent over two years on the sidelines. He’s returned over fences this term winning in good style at Punchestown, and again jumped well when going down narrowly behind Roi Des Francs in a Grade 2 at Naas. Willie Mullins felt afterwards that he may have left the eight-year-old a bit short, and presumably he can improve again on that form. The champion trainer was responsible for eight of the 12 entries at the five-day stage, and perhaps another of his powerful team, Outlander, will prove the chief threat. The Stowaway gelding has won both chase starts this term including a Grade 2 at the Limerick Christmas meeting. Monksland has strong claims on his second to No More Heroes in the Drinmore, while Zabana deserves a crack at this level having beaten Blair Perrone on his debut over fences here at the Christmas Festival.
