He hadn't run in nine months and I honestly thought the ground was going to be a shade quick,. We were hoping to get him back for the November Handicap . that was the race we were sort of aiming at. He's been working well at home. I thought I had left him a little bit short but he ran a blinder there. He had a nice light weight on his back which was a big help. I'm a little shocked as I did think he needed the run, so I'm delighted. He'll go hurdling when he finishes on the Flat. Adrian McGuinness, trainer

The Stewards enquired into an incident on the bend past the stands involving Giant's Quest (AUS), ridden by P.J. Smullen, placed fourth and Gypsy King, ridden by J.P. O'Brien, unplaced, where it appeared Gypsy King met with interference. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were unable to apportion any blame and took no further action. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Gypsy King, trained by A.P.O'Brien, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards (90 = 10st)
Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra for each race won Any horse rated above 90 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 10st. Subsequently, the excess over 90 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any three year old rated above 90 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
