that win is very special and, I keep saying it, but Oliver and Marie (Barden) are amazing owners to me. They are unbelievable and every year when I need a dig out or when I find a horse which isn’t massively expensive, they keep going and buying. Their appetite for jumps racing is just incredible and they are a lovely family. His jumping was brilliant today but hadn’t always been that way. Simon (Torrens) gave him an unbelievable ride around Tramore the last day where the fences are smaller, and I think he got a lot of confidence from it. When I tell Tiernan (Power Roche) to pop off and make the running it is scary, as he is so positive and so accurant over a fence. He is an extraordinarily talented young fella, so I’m delighted to have both him and Simon on our own little team.

I thought this was the ideal race for him after going up (in the weights) having won over 2m3f on soft ground the last day. He was back in trip, but I wanted to let him roll on and Paddy (O'Hanlon) is so good at making the running. He was left to dictate and around here that suits and his jumping was better today. In Ireland where do you find an ordinary race? That could be his final handicap hurdle as such as he got beaten previously off 98. Maybe I was a bad trainer, but we're stepping up and up now and he'll probably go chasing at some stage.

After race at Kilbeggan Fri, 25th Aug, 2023 (1st)
I'm delighted. It's nice for Oliver (Barden, owner) to get another winner here. He's a lovely horse and the bit of rain this evening really helped him. Kilbeggan is in excellent condition this evening, loads of grass on the track. He appreciated the ease in it and that was a big step up on what he has been doing. I thought he ran a lovely race to finish second here in a maiden and the form of his Downpatrick runs have worked out really well too. I was hoping he'd be competitive but with it being his first run in a handicap it's hard to know how you'll fare. Paddy was very strong on him, he gave him a great ride. He was very positive and very strong in the finish. He's rode two finishes for me recently, two good strong rides, at Downpatrick and here and a lesser person wouldn't have won on either. I'm really thrilled with him.
