Ballybawn Belter picked an opportune time to open her account over fences, claiming a dramatic renewal of the Listed Campion Insurance Tim Duggan Memorial Handicap Chase at Limerick.

A good sixth in the Troytown at Navan last month, the Liz Doyle-trained seven-year-old raced mainly in mid-division under Simon Torrens, but dropped back and had just one rival behind on clearing three out.

Making smooth headway on the outer approaching the straight, the JP McManus-owned bay was left in front when Conyers Hill (16/5) crashed out at the second-last and she kept on well from there to score by 11-lengths.

Held in second at the time, Karia Des Blaises fell at the last, while Dee Capo (11/4f) also unseated at that same obstacle.

With Sean Cleary-Farrell aboard, Uncle Pat (4/1) ultimately filled the runner-up spot, with El Champo (9/1) another length-and-three-quarters back in third.

"She had a couple of good runs at the start of this season and then we thought we'd try the Troytown but it just stretched her a bit. The heavy ground over three miles at Navan just stretched her," Doyle reflected.

"It's a lovely race to win with a great history to it. The soft ground is not too deep, and they are finishing quite well today, so we just got away with it.

"There is a 2m5f race at the Dublin Racing Festival and a little bit better ground should be a good fit."
