To be honest, I thought this was a much better race than the last day when he was second. We would have taken being placed. He's a very unassuming horse, plenty of ability there, maybe doesn't always show it. He showed it there today. This is his track and I could maybe see him as an Ulster National horse next year, something like that. He's a chaser, but his jumping is very disappointing. We will work on that for the winter. I'd like to see him jump better. I'd say you couldn't go far enough for him, he's a real stayer and the good gallop today suited. Jack Lord rides him out every day at home and he does a great job with him, so delighted to get him to win. We'll look after him now, I think we will give him a breather.

He does (love that grade) and I suppose after what happened at the start the last day (Galway, it was a no-show. It is just one of those things, I was too far back, and I don't think I'll ever get the spin on him again! Owner says no!. In that grade he is (dynamite), but I always kind of think when I come away out of a claimer that I will be able to place him in something that he can be competitive in, but I still haven't fired that dart - I will try again, though. I think he is a better horse going left-handed and Listowel might be an option. If he is going to do it (out of a claimer), it will be going left-handed at some place like that. He has won six races this year and it is hard to win one, so I'm delighted.

It is unfortunate for Cian (Quirke) to miss out as he is out injured. He had been slow coming to himself this year but when he starts to bolt with you at home, that's a sign he is back. He goes to the start early. He defied his penalty and the handicapper might leave him on the same mark, so we'll see. I met Julie (Thomas, owner) in Doncaster a few years ago and she breeds some top class horses in Newmarket. Her pedigrees are very good and she told me that this horse wasn't a commercial sales horse because he wasn't hugely big, so she offered me to get involved. We went from there and it is fantastic to get a winner with my first horse for Julie. To have an overseas owner having a winner in Ireland is fantastic. We'll keep him handicap hurdling now and we could look at a four-year-old handicap hurdle at Ballinrobe later this year. I thought he wanted a trip but Darragh (O'Keeffe) suggested we drop him back in trip, having ridden him the last day. It's Joanna's first winner for me and she is very loyal and able when Phildelma (Elvin, stable amateur) isn't available.
