Hector Crouch, the rider of Thunder Run (IRE), placed fourth, beaten by a short head for third place, had appeared to ride less vigorously for a few strides inside the final ½ furlong.

After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Crouch explained that his mount had failed to stay the 1 mile 3 furlongs and 99 yard trip on this occasion and was tiring over the concluding stages.

For this reason, he may have looked slightly less vigorous for a short period of time, as he was focused on holding the gelding together and keeping him balanced late on.

Furthermore, he considered that he had lost no momentum and was beaten on merit for third place.
