After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, McDonald explained that his mount had got racing from approaching 2 furlongs out and thereafter had a sustained battle with the winner Pints In Peace (IRE), which was eventually getting the better of his mount over the concluding stages.

McDonald acknowledged that he had briefly been less vigorous for approximately 2 strides nearing the winning post, when being comfortably held by Pints In Peace (IRE), however he felt Perola (FR) was coming to the end of its run and would have been beaten by a strong finishing Cuban Flame (FR), irrespective of his slight period of inactivity.

Taking into account the head margin between second and third, Stewards were unable to be satisfied that McDonald’s actions had prejudiced Perola (FR)’s chances of finishing second.

His explanation was noted.

Following the race, Nicola Currie reported that Leonie (GB), placed fourth, was denied a clear run in the closing stages.
