the plan was to sweeten him up a little bit this year in this game because he was maybe finding the handicap game a little tough. He was badly handicapped and his Irish National run probably did him no favours the following season and rather than taking on those 30 runner fields, this seems to have sweetened him up a bit. Owing to the low elevation of the sun, the Stewards granted permission for fence #5 to be omitted from this race The Stewards interviewed Thomas Dreaper, Authorised representative of J.T.R.Dreaper, trainer of Sizing Coal and Venitien De Mai (FR) regarding the late arrival of the both horses into the Parade Ring. Evidence was heard from the trainer's representative who stated that he had collected both saddles in good time but encountered difficulties when tacking up Venitien De Mai (FR). The delay was lenghtened when the surcingle was found to be too small and had to be changed. He apologised for any inconvenience caused. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that J.T.R. Dreaper was in breach of Rule 32 (ii) by failing to have his horses in the parade ring in a reasonable time before the signal to mount was given. They fined J.T.R. Dreaper ?200, through his representative, having taken his good previous record into consideration. Mr Michael Hillman, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry and Mr. Laurence McFerran acted as Chairman
